Patagonia
Patagonia is the southernmost portion of America mainly composed of plateaus.
Patagonia is derived from the word Patagon, a term used by Magellan to describe the native people whom he thought as giants during his expedition. Today, it is believed that Patagons were actually Tehuelches and Aonikenk who have an average height of 1.8 m, much taller compared to an average Spaniard during that time who typically stands around 1.55m.
Patagonia has a wide domain. It covers the provinces of Nuquen, Rio Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. In the south, it covers the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and La Pampa. The Chilean portion includes the Southern part of the region of Los Lagos, Aysen and Magallanes.
Patagonia is rich in marine fossils, dinosaur remains and other pre-historic relics.
