Patagonia
is a vast region covering most of the southern portion of Argentina
and a little part of Chile.
The name of the region was coined due to the explorer Magellan's description of the people living in the region. He used the word patagon to signify the giant-like size of the natives.
The total land area of this region is approximately 900,000 square km, including the archipelago of Tierra del Fuego.
Patagonia is famous for its rugged yet breathtaking scenery which is perfect for those into hiking and other more adventurous sports.
